2009 is almost over, where the heck did it go so fast?! December 1st brings the final installment in our "song of the month" series. "NEVER SAY DIE/WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG", 3 chords and a message to end the year with. It's a battle cry for the lifers to keep carrying that torch and burning it bright, but it's also directed at the youngest ears of tomorrow's generation. Find the truth inside, express it, and never give up.

And with that, our "song of the month" series comes to an end, hope you had as much fun with it as we did. For everyone who's been asking "so when's the CD come out?", keep an eye out for it next month on Chunksaah Records! We collected the 12 songs onto one CD entitled "Ghosts on the Boardwalk", coming very soon.

As we set our sights on the final party of the year ("Home for the Holidays" shows), we want to take a minute to thank everyone who has celebrated our big 20th birthday with us throughout this year and all over the world. Whether you came out to one of the shows, played on one of the tours, or just checked out the new music, we couldn't have done it without you! The lyrics to "Big Eyes" was a classic Souls collaboration. When we colaborate on lyrics it can make the song meaning a bit vague because the original inspirations came from different heads. Somehow we follow a musical/lyrical thread that makes sense in some indescribable way and they fit together. I was gone for a couple of days from the writing session and when I came back the guys had created the chorus lyrics and music to this song. After hearing what the guys had written with Ted, I imagined a girl of about twenty moving to a big city to start a life on her own. I saw Los Angeles in my mind, with its high aspirations and troubled dark side. The verse music came next and the verse lyrics evolved over time. To me, the song is not exactly about anything. Maybe its talking about wanting a friend. Maybe its about the search for a real friend.

The Bouncing Souls 20th Anniversary World Tour Continues!

Coming next week… The Bouncing Souls and Bayside bring the East Coast flavor across the west, celebrating The Bouncing Souls 20-year anniversary, and the last leg on a year-long world tour.  Be sure to come and celebrate as we usher in the holiday season with one last romp this year. We became friends with Bayside over the summer drinking together in the fields and parking lots of the Warped Tour.  Then we realized they were our neighbors just across the river in Long Island! A good week for nostalgia and giving thanks for my education:

Had a lovely time in Europe with the Souls and a nice jaunt about Spain afterwards. I got off the plane on Thursday (thanks for the ride home Pete!) and on Friday found Youth Brigade on my doorstep. I got to thinking about ‘the good old days’ when I first toured with the Souls (yikes, 1994) and how much I learned from Shawn and Mark and still to this day how much our families are intertwined. I certainly don’t think there would still be a Chunksaah records without the Stern brothers, and maybe not a Bouncing Souls either. They really taught us so much about a different way to do things… I’m actually sad that I’m not leaving for Canada with those bands tomorrow because our northern neighbors are in for a real treat!

Even before the Sterns, however, well before I was k8 is gr8, I was quite simply known as ‘Jon Hiltz’s sister’. For those of you too young or far away…my big brother (who, by the way, often tours with me and the Souls these days… ) was in a band called Born Against (amongst others) in the early 90’s. He also toured with Rorschach and other bands and hosted hundreds of shows in his basement in Westfield, NJ. You’d probably not even believe it if you saw the list of bands that played there… in any case, this was when I was in college so I missed a lot of it… but I remember so many times coming home and seeing him and Charles (of Rorschach and Gern Blandsten Records…) and tons of other scene-makers putting on shows, making flyers, plotting tours, making silkscreens, photocopying zines, building skate ramps and van lofts, making food for traveling bands, etc. etc. It’s where I learned about DIY and about punk and about ‘the scene’, for lack of a better term.

I’m proud to say that Rorschach is reuniting this week and playing some shows in the northeast. I’m even prouder to say that I have the privilege of hosting their show at the Asbury Lanes this Thursday (maybe not my basement, but close enough!). People: without this band and people like my brother and Charles and the Sterns, music as we know it would be so drastically different. These are the people who figured out how to put on and promote shows, how to make new and different and clearly influential music, how to make their own records and record labels, how to travel around the country and the world and play this music live and sell these records. There was no internet, no cell phones, no gps. They had no help from ‘the industry’ or anyone but themselves and other people of their ilk spread out around the globe. I’m honored to know all of these people and to try to uphold the pillars that they built this way of life on.

If you live in NJ (or Richmond, NYC, Philly, or Boston) PLEASE go and see RORSCHACH this week. They are sick. If you live in Canada, get out to one of the shows with the Souls and Youth Brigade. If not, go get ‘Let Them Know’ (BYO’s new movie on dvd that tells their story… made by the same fine lads that made the Souls’ ‘Do You Remember?’). And please, support independent music, shows, and thought.

Bayside has been on our radar for a while now, we'd heard a lot of good things about them and liked their music so we asked them to join our fall tour. Since then we've spent 3 straight weeks of hanging out together the Warped Tour, and have since become great friends and fans of the band. This is gonna be a great tour!

"Airport Security" Lego Version

Why are Bouncing Souls fans the best? Cause they do stuff like recreate our videos by using Legos!

We were blown away when the Westervelt's sent us a link to their Lego version of "Airport Security" so we asked them if we could put it on our sites and asked them to write up a little something. So here it is:

When we saw the "Airport Security" video, with the cardboard sets and props, it just seemed natural to turn it into a Lego animation. Theresa constructed all the sets and props while Andrew and Brian, ages 12 and 13, did the bulk of the animating and Brian Sr. was the director/dictator and editor.

The whole project took two months and more hours than we are willing to admit to. We had all hoped that the Souls would see it but we never expected any feedback. Imagine our surprise when Kate
contacted us and wanted to put it on the Souls web site!

We go to as many Souls shows as we can, which is about every 3 or 4 months. Their music truly speaks to us and we hope this video can express our gratitude. Thank you Bouncing Souls for 20 years and we hope for many more.

Comin in hot for April 1st is "Dubs Says True", the newest song and an open letter to everyone who has shared our dream with us. It's a song about always remaining true.  P.S. One of our closest buds is nicknamed "Dubs" (Danny Windas shortened to "D.W",  shortened to "D.-Dubs", shortened to "Dubs") and he says "true" a lot, hence the song's title. - Bryan

Today's news: For the first time in 20 years (coincidence?) Mount Redoubt is erupting. Our flight from Honolulu to Anchorage was diverted to Seattle where we have been for 4 hours. Finally reboarded the plane but since the last eruption was 50,000 feet high of ash a couple hours ago we're not sure where we will land. Souls vs. The Volcano. Destination unknown. Ruby Ruby. Will we make it to the gig tonight and play our last state?

March certainly is rolling in like a lion with the 3rd song of the Souls anniversary song stampede. March's song is called "Airport Security". Here's what our Greg says about it:

A good love song is hard to come by..Most times they are corny and annoying...but the good ones are sooooo Good!! Airport Security is that attempt for me. Its a love song from me to my wife with a slice of a political statement/comic relief...but hopefully when the songs starts you forget about me, my wife, politics, comedy and yourself. If you do...it's a good love song.

WE ALL SING ALONG! ! !

Hi everyone, and happy "Bouncing Souls Year"!  That's right!  Presumably by now you've heard us going on and on about 2009 being OUR year, our 20th Anniversary!  Well here's the update:  Just got back from Sundance Film Festival, and 5 chilly-ass days in Minneapolis making a video. (and "seeing double at the Triple Rock" haha)  No ordinary video mind you, as this is no ordinary year.  Best way to describe it for now is, uh.. well it's hard to describe, but it'll be about a half hour long and will encompass (among a variety of other stuff) videos for two of our new songs.  There's a demented drug-addled host!  An even more demented ventriloquist!  A dancing robot!  A juggler!  Dancers!  Pure cheese, and a comedy of errors in general! You'll get too see us "acting", dressed as sleazy big-label record exec's in the opening scene.  It's awesome.  So stay tuned for that and more right here at this station.  Being in Minnesota that long actually makes NJ's winter seem toasty warm, I even surfed today here in good old Bradley Beach.  (A sweltering 35 degrees today!)  Moving on to even WARMER climates, we'll take be taking our punk rock circus further south, as the South American tour begins this Thursday.  But here's the MOST EXCITING NEWS....  FEBRUARY 1ST is almost upon us, and that means ANOTHER NEW SONG!  If you've subscribed, you already know.  If not, What are you waiting for!   FEBRUARY 1ST-----------WE ALL SING ALONG! ! !

A few words about the new "20 Years" logo"...
        
This adaptation of our original logo was a collaboration between Bryan Kienlen and the great artist and original punk rocker Arturo Vega. Arturo is a dear friend of the Souls and we thought it would be great to bring his artistic vision into the fold as one more special facet of this great anniversary celebration. Thanks for the birth of all things punk and cool Arturo, it's an honor to call you brother! Long Arturo Vega and live The Ramones!

The Bouncing Souls 20th Anniversary World Tour Kicks Off

It’s our anniversary finally and we are taking our party and our new jams on the road!  We have so many exciting shows coming up, we hope you will join us as we won’t disappoint.

First up is our trip out west to celebrate with our friends at SAILOR JERRY (congratulations on their documentary being in the SUNDANCE festival).  Also,  a big party day for the world as W is finally leaving office.  Our parties are merging at:
